Reducing our impact on the environment
Doing what’s right to protect our planet
Being environmentally aware is so much more than providing some sustainable products in easy-to-recycle packaging.
We’re serious about achieving Net Zero status, so this means focusing on all areas of business operations, production and delivery to ensure we’re doing everything in our power to reduce our overall impact on the environment.
We’re committed to monitoring, managing and improving our environmental impact by:
- Protecting land and life from waste, packaging and chemical use
- Monitoring environmental facilities management, including air and climate impact, such as energy use, GHG emissions, air emissions, transportation & logistics
- Protecting water, in terms of how much water is used and saved in production, reducing pollutants and protecting oceans and waterways
Managing environmental facilities
Over the past few years, we’ve invested in initiatives that have helped us make substantial changes to our environmental impact. As such, we’re proud to say that we’re already operating as a carbon-neutral business.
We enlisted the help of Greenify® to help offset the environmental impact of our business, and we have achieved great milestones*, including:
- Offset 1,620 tonnes of carbon emissions
- Recovered and repurposed 7,192kg of nature-bound plastics
- Planted 2,844 trees
*Accumulative figures of both Greenify and Planet Positive initiatives. Numbers correct as of March 2024
We care about fulfilling shipments and orders in the most sustainable way too, and we’re proud to report that over 1.3K UPS shipments were sent carbon neutrally in 2022.
To help us on our journey towards Net Zero, we’re also working closely with our sustainability partner and have calculated our Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions for 2022 using the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standard. Our total carbon footprint for the year was 706.052 tCO2e. During the year – thanks to the Greenify projects – we totalled 724.8 tCO2e in verified carbon credits, so we effectively offset 2.7% more emissions than we measured.
Transparency is incredibly important to us at A.D., and it’s important that we can demonstrate to the world the steps we’re taking to reduce our overall impact.
That’s why we have chosen to disclose our environmental impact through CDP, a global non-profit that runs the world’s leading environmental disclosure platform.
How we’re protecting water
In addition to the work we’re doing with Greenify® to recover and repurpose plastic waste, we also actively seek partnerships with manufacturers who care about protecting water sources as much as we do.
This means we have a robust supplier code of conduct where we set out clear objectives relating to water quality and consumption.
We expect suppliers to effectively reduce, reuse and recycle water with responsible treatment of wastewater discharges to protect the environment and improve overall water quality.
For example, one of our favourite sustainable product lines is the Impact AWARE™ range, which uses recycled and repurposed materials and less water in production, with 2% of all proceeds from each item donated to Water.org.
How we’re protecting land and life
Selecting sustainable product lines is very important to us, but we also consider factors beyond the materials used and the manufacturing processes.
We also focus on factors relating to the recyclability of items, including the chemicals used in all aspects of the product and the packaging.
Our suppliers are expected to identify, minimise or eliminate the use of restricted substances in manufacturing processes and finished products to ensure regulatory compliance with REACH regulations.
This means we can find safer ways to lower the impact of the lifecycle of the products – from the way they’re made right through to how every element can be recycled.

What are the top tips for improving environmental sustainability?
- Conduct an Environmental Impact Assessment - look at your impact and identify key areas such as energy consumption, water usage, waste generation, and carbon emissions.
- Set Clear Environmental Goals - set up specific, measurable, and time-bound environmental goals. This could include targets for reducing energy consumption, increasing the use of renewable energy, or minimising waste.
- Promote Sustainable Supply Chain Practices - look at the partners you work with and assess if they match your values and care about doing what’s right. If not, then start looking for suppliers who adhere to environmentally responsible practices. This includes sourcing materials responsibly, reducing transportation-related emissions, and ensuring ethical labour practices.
- Get Support - work with a specialist consultant to help your business. Our chosen sustainability partner helped us to assess our impact, plan a sustainability strategy, and advised us on how to implement changes throughout our business.
